Many DAOs worldwide are still in their early stages and evolving. OpenmeshDAO's main goal is to ensure that every critical decision we make is transparently recorded on-chain as part of the Openmesh Transparency and Governance Framework.
This proposal is a request to burn several Openmesh Verified Contributor NFTs granted to individuals who are currently expected to no longer contribute to Openmesh. The existence of these NFTs does not allow the current Verified Contributors to pass any proposals under the present bylaws.
To solve this threshold issue, several approaches are possible: (1) Inactive individuals self-burn their NFTs (2) Minting new NFTs to lower the percentage of inactive individuals (3) Forcefully burning the NFTs of inactive individuals
Many Verified Contributors have performed (1), however, there are currently 4 inactive individuals who have chosen not to perform this option. As we do not have enough new individuals with enough contributions to be granted a Verified Contributor NFT to perform (2), I believe (3) is our best option.
This proposal does not adhere to the bylaws, as it is clearly classified as “Membership Matters”, however, it will not reach the required 75% approval rate. As this DAO currently still has few members, high thresholds are required for any decent decentralization, to provide protection against malicious actors. This comes however with the flip side that any large simultaneous outflows of contributors will create an impossible-to-achieve threshold, as has happened now.
This Verified Contributor DAO is not meant to vote on Openmesh tokennomics related proposals or proposals that impact any current or future engineering and roadmap. It has only been granted this responsibility temporarily until the Openmesh DAO on Ethereum goes live, which is governed by the OPEN ERC20 token. Hence the smart contracts of the Verified Contributor DAO are not in line with its current usage, requiring at least 20% of the total supply to participate and the majority of all voters to agree. This allows us to make an exception for this proposal to bypass the current bylaws, however, this should naturally only be done in exceptional circumstances.
In case this proposal is passed, the following Verified Contributors NFTs will be burned:
Verified Contributor ID 1
Verified Contributor ID 4
Verified Contributor ID 12
Verified Contributor ID 13
Every voter is encouraged to verify themselves that these individuals are indeed currently no longer planning to contribute to Openmesh.
